Course Overview
This half-day course is designed to raise awareness and understanding of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) among those who work directly or indirectly with young people. The training aims to help professionals recognise the signs, understand risk factors, and respond appropriately to concerns or disclosures.
Focusing on prevention, early intervention, and safeguarding, the course equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to identify potential exploitation and take appropriate action in line with safeguarding procedures.
The training aligns with key legislation and guidance including the Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018), and local safeguarding partnership procedures.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Understanding Child Sexual Exploitation
- Define Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and understand how it differs from other forms of abuse.
- Recognise the grooming process and how perpetrators manipulate and control victims.
- Identify risk factors and vulnerabilities that increase the likelihood of exploitation.
- Understand online and in-person exploitation, including the role of social media, coercion, and peer influence.
Recognising the Signs
- Identify indicators of CSE in behaviour, appearance, and relationships.
- Understand the barriers to disclosure and why young people may not seek help.
- Explore case studies to recognise early warning signs and patterns of exploitation.
Responding to Concerns
- Understand the importance of professional curiosity and asking appropriate questions.
- Know how to record and report concerns accurately in line with safeguarding procedures.
- Develop confidence in responding to disclosures sensitively and appropriately.
- Recognise the roles of multi-agency working and information sharing in protecting young people.
Supporting and Empowering Young People
- Explore trauma-informed approaches when supporting victims or those at risk.
- Understand the impact of CSE on mental health, trust, and relationships.
- Promote protective behaviours and resilience among young people.
